Water Treatment Operator Trainee

We are seeking a dependable and motivated Water Treatment Operator Trainee to join our Utilities team. Under close supervision, this position provides hands-on training in the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and general upkeep of water treatment plant equipment and facilities while supporting the delivery of safe, reliable water service to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor plant processes, equipment readings, alarms, and operating conditions.
• Collect samples and perform routine tests in accordance with established procedures.
• Record meter readings, test results, inspections, maintenance activities, and operating data accurately.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work areas.
• Respond to routine operating needs, including weekends, holidays, or emergency call-ins as assigned.
• Complete required training and work toward obtaining any applicable water treatment operator certification.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Basic computer, mathematics, and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, safety procedures, and standard operating practices.
• Ability to follow supervisory direction, conduct assigned tasks independently under close supervision, and work cooperatively as part of a team.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

This position requires standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, reaching, and operating equipment. The employee may occasionally need to lift or move materials weighing up to fifty pounds. Work may take place indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, or emergency response.
