Water/Wastewater Operator - Certification Required

License/Certification: Valid California Driver’s License. Must obtain State of California Grade I Water Treatment Operator of State of California Water Resources Control Board Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification.

Certification status must remain current in order to continue employment.

Definition: Under supervision performs a variety of tasks maintaining water and wastewater plant equipment and appurtenances, such as: pumps, chemical feed systems, valves and motors; maintains grounds, buildings, and other related areas as needed, such as the removal and disposal of weeds.

Under direct supervision, will be expected to learn how to monitor, operate and adjust controls of the water and wastewater treatment plants; equipment and machinery, such as: valves, motors, pumps, chemical feed pumps, and other plant equipment and other related work as required.

Typical Duties:
1. Under direct supervision, monitors, operates, and adjusts controls for the water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and machinery, such as: valves, motors, pumps, chemical feed pumps and other plant equipment.

2. Under supervision, maintains water and wastewater plant equipment and appurtenances, such as pumps, chemical feed systems, valves, motors, grounds, buildings, and other areas as needed.

3. Under supervision, obtains water and wastewater samples for laboratory analysis using standard sampling techniques and chain of custody procedures

4. Under supervisor, completes plant operator logs.

5. Remove/install, clean and maintain agriculture chlorinating units.

6. Lifts and moves heavy objects from time to time

7. Keep work areas and tolls used on the job clean.

8. Carries out daily pre-job inspection of equipment and vehicles and performs other regular safety, maintenance and cleanliness checks as required.

9. Completes other assignments and tasks as needed.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
